BC x YOSHITAKA AMANO!

Yoshitaka Amano, born in 1952 in Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, is a master artist of global stature in the field of fantasy art.

In 1967, at the age of 15, Amano joined the animation studio Tatsunoko Production Co., Ltd., where he participated in character design for animated series such as Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, Time Bokan, The Adventures of Hutch the Honeybee, and Neo-Human Casshern.

After becoming independent in 1982, he turned to illustration and, from 1983 to 1986, won Japan’s highest science fiction honor, the Seiun Award, for four consecutive years. Beginning in 1987, he became responsible for the logo and visual image design of the Final Fantasy video game series, through which he gained worldwide acclaim. In 2000, he was nominated for a Hugo Award and, in the same year, received an Eisner Award.

Amano has held a series of solo exhibitions, including critically acclaimed art shows in New York, London, and Paris, earning admiration from audiences around the world and continually expanding his unique international presence across multiple creative fields. His signature “Amano aesthetic” blends the Eastern elegance of ukiyo-e with the opulence of European classicism. Through wild, flowing lines and vivid contrasts of highly saturated primary colors, he constructs fantastical worlds that are seductive, austere, and mysterious. His visual language has profoundly influenced the look of such classics as Vampire Hunter D and The Heroic Legend of Arslan, earning him the title “Father of Fantasy.”
